Special collection
Arcanum Unbounded
Arcanum Unbounded is a Cosmere anthology: a guided shelf of shorter stories, novellas and excerpts that open windows onto different worlds, eras and corners of the wider universe.
Why it exists
A map of the Cosmere in miniature.
This is not a single saga or a continuous reading order. The collection brings together stories that would otherwise be scattered across different editions, and adds short essays, planetary notes and visual material to show how the Cosmere connects without requiring every connection to be known in advance.
The contents
Nine stories, six systems, many entry points.
Open each card to see what kind of story it is, where it belongs and when it fits best in a wider reading journey.
Selish system · Sel

The Hope of Elantris
A short epilogue to Elantris, told from a different point of view and full of the warmth and humour of life after the novel's central crisis.
A little more context
When to read it: After Elantris.
What it adds: A small return to Sel and its people; it works best as a coda rather than an introduction.

The Emperor’s Soul
A precise, self-contained novella about an artist forced to create a new soul for an emperor while negotiating identity, craft and power.
A little more context
When to read it: Any time; after Elantris if you want to keep Sel's wider context together.
What it adds: It takes place on Sel, but follows a different region and magic from Elantris.
Scadrian system · Scadrial

The Eleventh Metal
A compact prequel to Mistborn that follows Kelsier before the main trilogy and shows an early lesson in the use of Allomancy.
A little more context
When to read it: After The Final Empire, or after the original trilogy as a short retrospective.
What it adds: Its value is mostly character and atmosphere; it is not required to begin Mistborn.

Allomancer Jak and the Pits of Eltania
A pulpy in-world adventure about a thief and aspiring hero, framed by the notes of his long-suffering Terris servant.
A little more context
When to read it: After The Alloy of Law, when the tone and era of Wax and Wayne are familiar.
What it adds: It expands the everyday mythology of Scadrial's second era more than its central plot.

Mistborn: Secret History
A novella that revisits major events of the first Mistborn era from behind the visible world, revealing another perspective on its hidden history.
A little more context
When to read it: After Bands of Mourning for the safest first read; earlier placement is possible with spoiler risk.
What it adds: It is one of the collection's strongest Cosmere-facing stories, so its context matters.
Rosharan system · Roshar

Edgedancer
Lift takes centre stage in a fast, funny and unexpectedly tender story about hunger, responsibility and a danger moving through Roshar.
A little more context
When to read it: After Words of Radiance and before Oathbringer.
What it adds: It bridges the first Stormlight novels and gives important space to a character who returns later.
Threnodite system · Threnody

Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell
A tense frontier tale set in a forest where violence attracts deadly predators, and survival depends on rules no one can afford to forget.
A little more context
When to read it: Any time; it can be read independently of the main sagas.
What it adds: Its system is Threnody, and its atmosphere shows how varied a Cosmere story can be outside epic fantasy.
First of the Sun system

Sixth of the Dusk
On a remote island, a guide who hunts with trained birds faces a future that may make his people's way of life obsolete.
A little more context
When to read it: Any time; save it for later if you prefer to discover its wider implications gradually.
What it adds: It introduces First of the Sun and offers one of the clearest glimpses at the Cosmere's far horizon.
Taldain system · Taldain

White Sand excerpt
A brief glimpse of White Sand, introducing Taldain, its divided world and the sand mastery at the heart of its conflict.
A little more context
When to read it: Before White Sand if you want a preview, or skip it after reading the graphic novel.
What it adds: It is an excerpt, not a separate ending or a replacement for the full graphic novel.
Beyond the stories
The collection also teaches you how to look outward.
The volume includes short essays about several planetary systems, a Cosmere map and supporting visual material. They are optional, but they turn the anthology into more than a stack of bonus fiction: they provide orientation for noticing connections between worlds.
