Geology and terrain
A surface divided into twelve spore oceans
Lumar is dominated by twelve roughly pentagonal oceans formed by falling spores. Islands, mountain barriers and shallow seafloors interrupt the pattern.
Climate and atmosphere
Moon shadows, rain ribbons and fluidised seas
Each moon casts a daily cooling shadow. Rain bands cross the sky, while heat, decomposition and seafloor gas can turn solid spores into flowing seas.
Biosphere
Island life above a deep unknown ecosystem
Islands support trees, flowers, crops, rats, cats, pigeons, butterflies and gulls. The deeper ocean ecosystem is almost entirely unknown.
Habitats
Islands, salt mines and moving sea routes
People concentrate on islands with soil, freshwater and safe anchorages. Salt and reinforced vessels are essential for crossing the spore oceans.
Open questions
A water cycle nobody fully understands
Rain ribbons, ocean depth ecology and the way decomposition returns water to the atmosphere remain major scientific puzzles.
